Dynamic Cold Therapy • DCT-SY-08-HC

DCT 0.8 HP Cooling and Heating System with Wi-Fi App

The DCT-SY-08-HC is the 0.8 HP unit in Dynamic Cold Therapy's cold-and-heat system range — a combined chiller and heater that brings plunge water down to a low of 37°F without ice, and back up to 85°F when you want a warm soak instead. It is rated for tubs up to 135 gallons, controlled from the Tuya Smart app, and carries built-in ozone sanitation and two-stage filtration so the water stays clear between changes.

Wellari Expert Take

Why Consider the DCT-SY-08-HC?

The chiller is the part of a cold plunge setup that decides whether you actually use it. Ice works for a week or two and then becomes a chore; a chiller makes the plunge available at a set temperature every day with no daily effort. This unit reaches 37°F, which is colder than most people ever want, and it also heats to 85°F — so the same tub can be run warm out of season rather than sitting idle.

What separates a system like this from a bare chiller is the water-care hardware. A self-priming circulation pump, two-stage 20-micron filtration and an automated ozone generator are all built in. Buying a chiller without them means adding them later or changing water far more often.

Read the cooling rate before you size it. This unit moves water temperature roughly 1–3°F every 30 minutes, so pulling a full tub down from ambient is an overnight job, not an hour. That is normal for the class — it is the reason a chiller is left running rather than switched on before a session.

Best For

  • Owners of a cold plunge tub bought without a cooling system — Dynamic Cold Therapy lists the chiller as optional on its tubs and Wellari supplies them tub-only
  • Tubs up to 135 gallons
  • Anyone tired of buying and hauling ice to keep a plunge usable
  • Buyers who want the tub to double as a warm soak out of season — this unit heats as well as cools
  • Setups where water clarity matters and you would rather not bolt on separate ozone and filtration

DCT-SY-08-HC Features & Buying Details

Cooling, Heating & Capacity
  • Power: 0.8 HP rotary compressor
  • Temperature range: 37°F to 85°F
  • Tub capacity: up to 135 gallons
  • Cooling rate: approximately 1–3°F every 30 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and water volume
  • Circulation: built-in self-priming water pump
  • Use environment: rated for indoor use and covered outdoor installation

Why 37°F matters as a specification. It is the floor, not the setting. Most people plunge somewhere between the mid-40s and mid-50s, so a unit that reaches 37°F has headroom — it will hold your chosen temperature comfortably rather than running flat out at its limit.

The heating function is genuinely useful. The same unit can bring the tub up as well as down, which means the tub is not dead weight in winter or for anyone in the household who wants a warm soak instead.

Water Care — Ozone, Filtration & Pump
  • Sanitation: automated natural ozone system, running continuously
  • Filtration: two-stage water filtration
  • Filters: 20-micron replaceable cartridges
  • Pump: built-in self-priming circulation pump
  • Maintenance: filter housing wrench supplied

The filter handles particulate and the ozone generator addresses what filtration cannot. Together they extend how long water stays clear between changes — the practical difference between a plunge you maintain occasionally and one you drain constantly.

Replacement 20-micron filters are sold in four-packs in both 5″ × 2.5″ and 10″ × 2.5″ sizes.

Controls & Connectivity
  • App: Wi-Fi enabled for mobile control and automation via Tuya Smart
  • On-unit display: splash-proof digital touch screen
  • Automation: set a target temperature and the system maintains it

App control matters more on a chiller than it sounds. Because the unit is left running rather than switched on per session, the useful function is checking and adjusting the set point remotely — not starting it before you get home.

Electrical & Installation
  • Supply: standard household power outlet, GFCI built in
  • Unit dimensions: 19″ L × 14″ W × 22″ H
  • Unit weight: 85 lb
  • Clearance: allow room on all sides for airflow and heat dissipation
  • Siting: flat, level, ventilated position beside the tub

A note on the voltage figure. Dynamic Cold Therapy's published documentation states 120V for this range in one place and 110V in another. Both describe an ordinary North American household circuit rather than a dedicated high-voltage supply, and the GFCI is built into the unit. Ask us and we will confirm the exact requirement with the manufacturer in writing before you order.

Do not use an extension cord, and never run the chiller without water flowing through the lines — prime the pump and bleed air from the hoses first.

On running costs: we do not publish an operating-cost estimate for cold plunge chillers. Duty cycle depends on your target temperature, ambient conditions, tub insulation and how often the tub is used and opened — none of which the manufacturer specifies. Any figure we quoted would be a guess dressed as a specification.

What Is Included, and How It Ships
  • Hoses: in and out 3 ft hoses (2 hoses), quick connect
  • Direct connect fitting
  • Filters: 3 supplied, including the pre-installed cartridge
  • Filter housing wrench

The supplied hoses are 3 feet each — enough for a chiller sitting immediately beside the tub and not much more. If the unit needs to sit further away, behind a screen or around a corner, plan for longer hoses. Wellari also carries neoprene hose covers, which matter more than they sound: uninsulated hose between a chiller and a tub is a direct heat gain.

This unit is classified by the manufacturer as a small-package shipment, not LTL freight. That is a meaningful practical difference from the tubs, which ship on a pallet and require curbside freight delivery.

Warranty & Support
  • Manufacturer warranty: 1 year
  • Support: lifetime product support from Dynamic Cold Therapy
  • Brand: Dynamic Cold Therapy
  • Model: DCT-SY-08-HC

Note the warranty term. One year is shorter than the multi-year terms on some other equipment we carry, and worth factoring into the decision on a product with a compressor in it. Lifetime product support is separate from the warranty and covers help rather than parts.

Warranty terms, coverage and claim procedures are set by the manufacturer and may vary by component. Review the manufacturer's current warranty documentation for the terms that apply to your unit, and keep your purchase documentation for future support reference.

Premier DCT-SV-10DO3 1.0 HP 37–85°F 150 gal 1–3°F / 20 min

How this differs from the Premier Edition. The two 0.8 HP systems share their compressor rating, temperature range, capacity and cooling rate. The Premier Edition units are specified by the manufacturer with 3/4-inch inlet and outlet connections for direct plumbing to the Dynamic barrel and luxury tubs; that connection size is not published for this unit, so confirm your tub's fittings with us before ordering if you are plumbing it directly rather than using the supplied quick-connect hoses.

Wellari also carries the Standard Edition chiller. Its compressor rating is currently stated inconsistently in the manufacturer's own documentation, so we are not publishing a horsepower figure for it until that is resolved.

The tubs these connect to are sold without a cooling system. Dynamic Cold Therapy lists the cooling system as optional on every barrel tub, and Wellari supplies them tub-only: Oval Barrel 50″ · 42″ Barrel, plastic-lined · 42″ Barrel, 304 stainless.

Browse all cold plunge chillers or ask us which system suits your tub and location.

Before You Buy: confirm your tub volume is within 135 gallons. The supplied hoses are 3 feet each, so plan for the unit to sit immediately beside the tub or budget for longer hoses. The manufacturer's documentation states 120V in one place and 110V in another — both an ordinary household circuit, with GFCI built in — and we will confirm the exact requirement in writing on request. Note the manufacturer warranty is 1 year. We do not publish a running-cost estimate for chillers, because the manufacturer publishes no duty-cycle data. Manufacturer specifications may be revised; review current manufacturer documentation before installation.

Common Questions

How cold will it actually get the water?

Down to a low of 37°F. That is the floor of its range, not a normal setting — most people plunge in the mid-40s to mid-50s, and a unit with headroom below your target holds temperature more steadily than one running at its limit.

Does it heat as well as cool?

Yes. It is specified as a cold and heat system with a range of 37°F to 85°F, so the same unit can bring the tub up as well as down.

How big a tub will it handle?

Up to 135 gallons. Above that, the 1.0 HP Premier system is rated to 150 gallons.

How quickly does it cool?

Approximately 1–3°F every 30 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and water volume. Pulling a full tub down from room temperature is an overnight job, which is why these units are left running rather than switched on per session.

What electrical supply does it need?

A standard household outlet with the GFCI built into the unit. The manufacturer's documentation states 120V in one place and 110V in another; both describe an ordinary North American household circuit. Contact us and we will confirm the exact figure with the manufacturer in writing before you order.

Is a chiller included when I buy a Dynamic tub?

No. Dynamic Cold Therapy lists the cooling system as optional on the barrel tubs, and Wellari supplies them tub-only. The chiller is a separate purchase — which is exactly what this product is.

What does it cost to run?

We do not publish a figure. Running cost depends on your target temperature, ambient conditions, how well the tub is insulated and covered, and how often it is used — and the manufacturer publishes no duty-cycle data. Any number we gave you would be a guess presented as a specification, so we decline to give one.

What warranty applies?

One year from the manufacturer, plus lifetime product support. Coverage and claim procedures are set by the manufacturer and may vary by component.

Why Buy From Wellari Wellness

Manufacturer Specifications, Stated Plainly

Every figure on this page — power, temperature range, capacity, cooling rate, dimensions, weight, water-care hardware and warranty term — comes from Dynamic Cold Therapy's current published specifications and the current dealer documentation, not from a distributor summary. Where the manufacturer's own documents disagree, as they do on the voltage figure, both figures are stated. Where a specification is not published at all, it is left off the page. Products are sourced through verified manufacturer, distributor or supplier channels.

Important product and safety information. This unit is intended for use with a compatible cold plunge tub, installed and operated according to the manufacturer's instructions. Install on a level, stable, ventilated surface, use the built-in GFCI plug in a properly grounded outlet, and never operate the chiller without water flowing through the system. Cold water immersion places real stress on the cardiovascular system. Enter and exit deliberately, never plunge alone if you are new to it, and leave the water immediately if you feel dizzy, disoriented, numb or unwell. This product is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before using cold water immersion if you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, circulatory problems, a respiratory condition, are pregnant, use an implanted medical device, or have any question about whether cold immersion is appropriate for you.

Not sure which system your tub needs?

Tell us your tub volume, where it sits and whether it is plumbed or hose-connected, and we will confirm the right capacity — and get the electrical requirement from the manufacturer in writing before you commit.
