DCT 42″ Barrel Cold Plunge — Plastic-Lined with Pacific Cedar Exterior
The DCT-B-042-PLPC-34 is the upright 42-inch barrel plunge in the Dynamic Cold Therapy range: a plastic-lined tub inside a Pacific Cedar shell, with 3/4-inch inlet and outlet connections, ball valves and quick connects fitted, an insulated locking cover and a Pacific Cedar step included. The cooling system is optional and not included — this is supplied as a tub.
Wellari Expert Take
Why Consider the DCT-B-042-PLPC-34?
Upright barrels and lie-down troughs are two different plunge experiences. A 42-inch barrel is the upright one: you sit or stand in it, water comes up around the chest, and it takes up roughly the floor area of an armchair rather than the length of a bath. For most homes that is the difference between a plunge that fits and one that does not.
The plastic liner is the practical choice of the two 42-inch barrels. It holds temperature slightly better than bare stainless does, it is more forgiving of knocks, and it costs less — the stainless version is the one to choose if you want the material and the look, not because the plastic is a compromise on function.
Be clear on what arrives: this is the tub. Dynamic Cold Therapy lists the cooling system as optional across the barrel range, and Wellari supplies it tub-only. Budget for a chiller separately unless you intend to run it on ice.
Best For
- Homes without floor space for a lie-down plunge — this is an upright barrel roughly the footprint of an armchair.
- Buyers who want a real cedar exterior rather than a composite or wrapped finish.
- Anyone planning to add a chiller now or later — the 3/4-inch connections and valves are already fitted.
- Users who prefer a plastic-lined interior for temperature retention and durability.
- Residential use.
DCT-B-042-PLPC-34 Features & Buying Details
🔴 The Cooling System Is Optional — What Is and Is Not Included
Included with the tub:
- Pacific Cedar step
- 1 insulated spa cover with lock
- 3/4″ ball valve (pair) and quick connect (pair) for inlet and outlet
- 1″ ball valve for the drain
Not included: the cooling and heating system. The tub is pre-plumbed for one — the 3/4-inch valves and quick connects are fitted at the factory — so adding a chiller later is a connection job, not a modification.
Wellari carries both Dynamic Cold Therapy Premier Edition systems: the 0.8 HP and the 1.0 HP. Both cool to a low of 37°F, heat as well as cool, and use matching 3/4-inch connections. For a tub of this size in a conditioned indoor space the 0.8 HP is normally sufficient.
Running it on ice is possible but not the plan. Without a chiller you are buying and adding ice for every session, which is what most people are trying to stop doing.
Construction & Materials
- Interior material: Plastic
- Exterior material: Pacific Cedar wood
- Connections: 3/4″ inlet and outlet, ball valves and quick connects fitted
- Drain: 1″ ball valve
- Cover: Insulated spa cover with lock
- Step: Pacific Cedar
Dynamic Cold Therapy describes the exterior as Pacific Cedar, chosen for appearance and for its resilience outdoors. The plastic liner is what actually holds the water — the cedar is the shell around it.
A locking cover is not a minor accessory on a plunge. It keeps debris out, slows heat gain between sessions (which directly reduces how hard a chiller has to work), and the lock matters in any household with children.
Size, Capacity & Space Planning
- Exterior dimensions: 42″ W × 39.5″ H
- Interior dimensions: 38″ W × 33″ H
- Empty weight: 220 lb
- Designated use: Residential
This is an upright plunge. At 38 inches of interior width and 33 inches of interior depth you sit rather than lie — the water comes up around the chest when seated. Taller users should measure against that 33-inch interior height before assuming full-shoulder immersion.
Plan for the filled weight, not the empty weight. The tub is 220 lb empty. Water is roughly 8.3 lb per gallon, so a filled barrel of this size plus an occupant is a substantial point load — check the floor if you are siting it on a raised deck, a balcony or an upper floor rather than a slab or ground-level concrete.
Allow clearance around the tub for the step, for the chiller if you add one, and for hose runs.
Shipping, Freight & Delivery
- Freight method: LTL freight — curbside only, on a pallet
- Cartons: 1
- Shipping weight: 235 lb
- Shipping dimensions: 45″ W × 45″ D × 47″ H
- Country of manufacture: China
This tub ships by freight, not by parcel carrier. Dynamic Cold Therapy specifies curbside delivery on a pallet — the driver brings it to the kerb and no further. At 235 lb in a single large carton, arrange at least two people and a route to the installation point before the delivery date.
Worth knowing: the 50-inch oval barrel ships by UPS/FedEx Ground instead, despite being the larger tub. If freight access to your address is difficult, that difference may matter more than the size.
Warranty & Manufacturer Information
- Manufacturer warranty: 1 year
- Brand: Dynamic Cold Therapy
- Model: DCT Barrel — Plastic with Pacific Cedar Exterior, DCT-B-042-PLPC-34
- Country of manufacture: China
- Designated use: Residential
Note the warranty term. Dynamic Cold Therapy provides one year across the cold therapy range — shorter than the five-year term on the Golden Designs saunas, and worth factoring in.
On the barcode: we have not published a UPC for this model. Dynamic Cold Therapy's V26.0 price sheet and its dealer workbook state different barcodes for it, and we do not publish an identifier we cannot reconcile. We have raised it with the manufacturer.
Warranty terms, coverage and claim procedures are set by the manufacturer and may vary by component. Review the manufacturer's current documentation for the terms that apply to your unit.
Natural Wood, Safety & Usage
Natural wood notice: Grain, tone, knots and other natural characteristics vary between individual tubs and may differ slightly from product photography. This is normal for solid Pacific Cedar and is not a defect.
Cedar sensitivity: Cedar has a natural aroma. A small number of people find cedar oils irritating — worth knowing if anyone in the household is sensitive to it.
Usage: Intended for residential use. Site on a level, solid, load-bearing surface and operate according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep the cover locked when the tub is not in use, particularly where children have access.
Cold water immersion: Cold plunging places real stress on the cardiovascular system. Enter and exit deliberately, never plunge alone if you are new to it, and do not stay in longer than you are comfortable with. Leave the water immediately if you feel dizzy, disoriented, numb or unwell.
Medical disclaimer: This product is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before using cold water immersion if you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, circulatory problems, a respiratory condition, are pregnant, use an implanted medical device, or have any question about whether cold immersion is appropriate for you.

Compare the Dynamic Cold Therapy Barrel Range
Wellari carries three Dynamic Cold Therapy barrel plunges. All three are supplied tub only with the cooling system optional, all have a Pacific Cedar exterior, an insulated locking cover, a cedar step and 3/4-inch connections fitted, and all carry a 1-year manufacturer warranty.
- 42″ upright, plastic-lined — DCT-B-042-PLPC-34 — this page. 38″ × 33″ interior, 220 lb empty. Ships LTL freight, curbside.
- 42″ upright, 304 stainless steel — DCT-B-042-SSPC-34. Identical footprint and interior, stainless liner, 255 lb empty. Ships LTL freight, curbside.
- 50″ oval, plastic-lined — DCT-BO-50-PLPC-34. 46″ × 26″ × 28″ interior — a reclining shape rather than upright. 200 lb empty, and it ships UPS/FedEx Ground rather than freight.
How to choose. First decide upright or reclining: the two 42-inch barrels are sit-in, the 50-inch oval is lie-back. Then, if you want upright, choose the liner — plastic for temperature retention and value, 304 stainless for the material and the finish. Delivery is the quiet third factor: only the oval avoids curbside freight.

Common Questions
Does this include a chiller?
No. Dynamic Cold Therapy lists the cooling system as optional across the barrel range, and Wellari supplies this tub-only. The tub is pre-plumbed with 3/4-inch ball valves and quick connects, so adding a Premier Edition system later is a connection job rather than a modification.
Do you sit or lie down in it?
Sit. At 38 inches of interior width and 33 inches of interior depth this is an upright barrel — water comes up around the chest when seated. The 50-inch oval barrel is the reclining option.
Plastic or stainless liner — which should I choose?
The plastic liner holds temperature slightly better and is more forgiving of knocks; the 304 stainless version is the choice if you want the material and the finish. Footprint, interior dimensions, included items and warranty are identical between the two.
How is it delivered?
By LTL freight, curbside only, on a pallet, in a single carton weighing 235 lb. The driver brings it to the kerb and no further, so arrange at least two people and a clear route to the installation point.
Can I put it on a deck or a balcony?
Check the structure first. The tub is 220 lb empty, and filled with water plus an occupant the point load is considerably higher. On a slab or ground-level concrete this is not a concern; on a raised deck, balcony or upper floor it needs confirming.
Why is there no UPC listed?
Because Dynamic Cold Therapy's V26.0 price sheet and its dealer workbook state different barcodes for this model. We do not publish an identifier we cannot reconcile, and we have raised the discrepancy with the manufacturer.
What warranty applies?
Dynamic Cold Therapy provides a 1 year manufacturer warranty. Coverage and claim procedures are set by the manufacturer and may vary by component.
Why Buy From Wellari Wellness
Manufacturer Specifications, Stated Plainly
Wellari Wellness publishes current manufacturer specifications — materials, interior and exterior dimensions, connection sizes, what is in the box, weights, delivery method and warranty term — so you can compare on the facts rather than on marketing language. We state plainly when a cooling system is not included, and we omit an identifier rather than publish one the manufacturer's own documents disagree on. Products are sourced through verified manufacturer, distributor or supplier channels.
Tub and chiller are two purchases — let's size them together.
The tub is the easy part. Which cooling system suits it depends on where it sits and how often you use it. Tell us the setup and we will spec the pair.
